Looking for a challenge. The contracts involve the construction of city and Para-transit buses. Many of these projects (SEE SOME OF MY PROJECTS) are in the multimillion dollar range. Clients include the FCDOT(Fairfax, Va), CTA(Chicago Transit Authority), Delaware Transit Corporation, City of Phoenix, LACMTA (Los Angeles), NYCDOT(New York City), MBTA( Boston), Pittsburgh Port Authority, Napa Valley, AVTA, and others. I was, and am, responsible for the supervision and management of these contracts at - Supreme Bus in Goshen, Indiana - Champion Coach in Imlay City, Michigan - Braun Corporation in Winamac Indiana - New Flyer in Winnipeg, Canada, Crookston, Minnesota and Saint Cloud, MN- North American Bus Industries in Anniston, Alabama and Gillig in Hayward, Ca.. I have also conducted field audits in Marietta, Georgia at Cobb Community Transit; in Lancaster, CA at AVTA; in Dallas TX, for Acuson; in Anniston, Alabama for OCTA; NYCDOT; CATS and others. I have run garages in Des Moines, IA, and Fairfax Virginia. Originally left Metro to establish businesses for each of my children and my wife. We started Tony's LawnScapes for our son, Tony, now employing five people. Started Black Orchid Enterprises with our daughter, Andrea, marketing handmade and imported crafts. She has a shop with exclusive retail and wholesale distribution rights to Candles by Diane and jewelry by Costello International. With my wife, Susie, we started SSBN (Southwest Small Business Network) specializing in small business advertising and publication. Involves heavy desktop publishing activities. We have also created an Internet web presence for a number of firms. For additional sales experience, have done some concurrent automotive sales work.

1981-Sept. 1995 Superintendent of Maintenance, Metropolitan Transit Authority - Houston, TX.
Responsibilities involved all aspects of providing reliable, safe, clean, efficient and progressive transit services to the citizens of the Greater Houston area. I played a principle role in transforming what was in early 1981 the laughing stock of Houston and Transit - major unfavorable press daily, both here in Houston and nationally - into what is today renowned as one of the most effective, efficient, authoritative transit systems in the country.
Metro runs 1000 transit buses over 60,000,000 miles a year and has a substantial support fleet. I was involved in the conceptualization, building, stocking, staffing, and running, of a majority of the Metro 24 hour-7 day bus facilities. Complete responsibility for inventory (equipment, parts and vehicles), staff, safety, training, buildings & grounds, budget, vehicle and building maintenance, varied manual and computer information systems (Project Manager for VMS system design and implementation) and utilities.
Direct hands-on supervision and training of 75-150 mechanics and cleaners in each facility and directly responsible for all other personnel involved in the operation of these individual facilities. Coached, trained and promoted most of the upper level maintenance management staff in the facilities. One of my duties for the past ten years was interviewing and hiring all maintenance mechanics. Handled all maintenance related customer complaints. Involved with defining and letting bid specifications, RFPs, procurement contracts for facilities, parts, tools and support equipment, fuel and vehicles. Redefined Union/Management roles and contracts. Excellent record winning arbitration. Reduced grievance filings to minor numbers through enlightened management techniques such as Quality Circles and improved communication pathways. NEVER named in any EEOC action or Affirmative Action despite hundreds of hires and terminations. NEVER lost an unemployment hearing.
Lowered the cost of running a facility by one-third while increasing miles run (10s of millions) and service hours and adding such technical advances as Liquid Natural Gas, Articulated buses, wheelchair lifts, Compressed Natural Gas, computerized fare collection, vehicle locator systems, automated maintenance and computerized on-board maintenance information systems. Lowered facility utility costs and vehicle fuel usage substantially. Improved productivity significantly and decreased lost time by a major factor. Road failures were decreased by two orders of magnitude from pathetic levels in 1981 to what is now one of the finest records in the industry.

Service Manager, Palmyra Motors - Rochester NY
Hired to expand the service department to 24 hour-7 day operation for one of the largest dealership in the country. Lines included Chrysler, Plymouth, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Mercedes, Lamborghini, Maserati and Winnebago. We delivered over 10 thousand new and used vehicles per year - nationally and internationally - with sales to Debbie Reynolds, Woody Allen, O.J. Simpson, Kenny Rogers, J.J. Moore and many other demanding clients. It was also one of the largest Rolls Royce dealerships in the world.
Mechanic/Service Writer/Shop Foreman, Lou Holtz Buick - Rochester NY
Started as a mechanic, progressed to flat-rate mechanic, service writer and shop foreman. Clients included Presidents/CEOs of Xerox, Gannett, Eastman Kodak, Delco, Rochester Products and other major corporations; Congressman Horton - ex-head of the House Way & Means Committee, Senator Barber Conable - later, president of the World Bank; and many other equally distinguished and demanding customers. Used as a pre-production field test center by G.M. because of our expertise and high quality standards.
